Community Run Spaces
Sat, Jul 7 from 10am - 2pm
This event will be hosted in partnership with Common Area Maintenance (CAM), a collaboratively run artist studio and exhibition space in Belltown, housed in a former appliance repair shop. CAM founder Timothy Firth will speak to challenges and lessons learned in the creation of the space: leases, gutting, remodeling, organizational challenges, community building, and MONEY.
As Seattle’s real estate prices continue to rise at breakneck speed, community and artist organizations are coming up against more and more challenges in securing physical space for themselves in the City. This edition of Neighborhood Exchange is envisioned as a mini-summit for members of Seattle communities, not just artists, struggling to claim space in our changing town to come together and share challenges, celebrate successes, build solidarity and learn from each other.
