This event has passed.

Our day-long tour guide training has been reimagined as a virtual day of training! We are excited to move this event online so that our tour team can come back stronger than ever once we are able to do tours again.  We will be using Zoom to host our event, and this will work best if you have access to a computer with a camera & microphone or mobile device (tablet or phone).

SAF tour guide training only takes place once a year and you must attend this training. The focus is on developing the presentation/public speaking skills needed to become a SAF tour guide. We will also provide you with an introduction to architectural styles, and more detailed information about SAF and our tours. In advance of the training you will receive a tour script to review (but you are not expected to learn it) and digital packet of resources.

In addition to the day of training, you will need to be available for two additional activities, a practice tour/walk-through with your training mentor (an experienced SAF tour guide) and a free public tour with an audience. You will work in a small group alongside your tour mentor during these sessions. Each group will be learning a different tour, and additional small group sessions will be scheduled with your group.   Additionally, we are tentatively planning for all trainees to participate in a practice tour with a public audience on the weekend of June 13th & 14th.  If you are unable to attend we may be able to make alternate arrangements.

Don’t forget to become a member of SAF! The training is free, however we do encourage everyone who goes through training to become a member (if you are already a member, thank you). A discounted volunteer membership is available for $30.

Pick one Group when you register (2 additional 2 hour sessions will be required, dates tbd):

Group A – Art Deco

Group B – Greatest Hits

Group C —  Greatest Hits

Group D - Youth Tours: must be available to lead tours during the weekday for school fieldtrips

What’s Next?

After you complete these activities, you will co-guide along with another guide for at least four tours over the course of the year before you can lead on your own.
