Sat, May 7, 2022 from 9am - 3pm

This event has passed.

SAF tour guide training only takes place once a year and you must attend the all-day training. The focus is on developing the presentation/public speaking skills needed to become a SAF tour guide. We will also provide you with an introduction to architectural styles, and more detailed information about SAF and our tours. Prior to the training, you will receive a tour script to review (but you are not expected to learn it). The day also includes a light breakfast and lunch and materials which will be provided in a digital file. You will work alongside an experienced tour guide/mentor throughout the day and throughout your training who will provide coaching and answer any questions you may have.

In addition to the day of training, you will need to be available for two additional activities: a practice tour/walk-through and a free public tour with an audience. You will work in a small group alongside your tour mentor during these sessions. Each group will be learning a different tour (see below), so it’s important that you are able to attend both sessions in the group.

Don’t forget to become a member of SAF! The training is free; however, we do encourage everyone who goes through training to become a member (if you are already a member, thank you). A discounted volunteer membership is available for $30.

Pick one Group when you register (includes practice tour/public tour dates):

Group A – Stone to Steel:

Saturday, May 14 & June 4 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (plan to arrive a little earlier and stay after on June 4 for feedback)

Group B – Culture, Context, Construction

Sunday, May 15 & June 5 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (plan to arrive a little earlier and staf after on June 5 for feedback)

Group C - Art Deco

Saturday, May 14 & June 4 from 11:00 PM -2:00 PM (plan to arrive a little earlier and stay after for feedback on June 4 for feedback)

What’s Next?

After you complete these activities, you will co-guide along with another guide for at least four tours over the course of the year before you can lead on your own.
